Jimmy's Cambridge

Jimmy's Night Shelter began in 1995,in the basement of the church. It
aims to provide welcoming, safe and warm accommodation throughout the year, to anyone who would otherwise be forced to sleep rough or in a vulnerable environment.

Through the years Jimmy's has managed to achieve this aim as a night shelter and has recently moved to lager premises next door to Zion Baptist Church, which has enabled Jimmy's to expand it's care for the homeless.  As a result Jimmy's is now an assessment centre for the homeless of Cambridge and provides a 24 hour care service to it's guests as well as emergency care for many in need during extremely cold weather.

Jimmy's continues to meet the needs of homelessness in Cambridge and is open 365 days a year.  Originally conceived as an outreach of the Church, it is now a charity in its own right although the Church remains actively involved.  Most Sundays two church members visit the centre to listen and offer words of encouragement and on Tuesdays our minister joins Jimmy's staff and guests for lunch. We also work with Jimmy's to open up our Crypt area of the church as a severe weather emergency provision (SWEP) for people experiencing homelessness during the months of November to March.

On the 28th November 2012 Jimmy's was honoured to be opened as a 24/7 centre by Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  More information and photographs of the royal visit can be found on the Jimmy's website:
